What should you consider when you first have sex with someone, and how should you communicate?

  • Understand their own physical, emotional and sexual needs
  • Both parties know each other's personal characteristics and observe each other's behavior under stress or crisis situations
  • Both parties understand the consequences of sexual behavior
  • Both parties are willing to take responsibility for contraception and safe sex.

  • Can we accept each other's moral and cultural beliefs? How is the relationship, mutual trust and respect?
  • What are the expectations of both parties for the outcome of the Sexual Act?
  • How did the two sides view each other afterwards?
  • How much do both sides know about stds and aids?
  • What precautions have both sides taken?
  • What if you get an STD or get pregnant?
  • Has one partner ever had sex under pressure?
  • Have both parties discussed their decisions regarding sexual activity? Etc.
